What is the best age my dog can start training?

For puppies, we have a Puppy Head Start Program, which they can be enrolled in at ages 8-12 weeks old.

For retrieving training, dogs need to have all of their adult teeth, at about 6 months old, before beginning a program.

For all other training, the youngest we can take in at 5 months old, however every dog is different. Please call or text to see if your pup is ready.

FAQ

Does Stump Hill Farms do payment plans?

Yes! We take half up front and half when your dog graduates. We accept cash, CashApp, Venmo, and Paypal. Please contact us on Facebook at Stump Hill Farms – Kennel to set up payment.

Does my dog have to have all of their shots?

Yes, not only to protect your dog, but to protect others as well. Please email a copy of your dog’s shot records to [email protected] with your dog’s name and the dates of his stay, as the subject of the email.

Does my dog need to be fixed before being trained?

No, we train dogs as is. Dogs are housed in their own kennels. However, if you have a female that is in heat, please contact us to arrange nessesary accomadations or even to push back your training drop off date until she has cycled through.

FAQ

My dog cannot handle the heat. What are my options?

We do not have a full kennel with AC as of yet, however, our kennel has a cement pad and is covered to protect dogs from the heat and weather. Dogs are worked either in the early morning or evenings when it cools off, and have plenty of water to drink at all times.

If you’d still rather your dog to be inside, dogs still have to go through 2 weeks of training to assess behavior and to establish base training. This is due to the fact that dogs that come inside may also be with other dogs who opt for potty/crate training. The safety of everyone involved is our utmost priority. Dogs that come inside need to be friendly towards other dogs as well as children.

Do you work with Bully breeds?

Absolutely. We work with All Breeds for All Needs. All of Stump Hill Farms staff have owned Bullies at some point in the past.

FAQ

Does my dog board with you during training?

Yes! All dog’s are on-site during their stay.

Can my dog board & train for just a few days?

Yes! We offer a short board and train service while you’re away on a trip or vacation, for as low as $30 a day. Being as it’s a short stay for your dog, we can get your dog started on training, or apply finishing touches to a dog who has already recieved training. If you would like a full course, please see our Training Packages page.

My dog has a special diet.

When leaving your dog with us, rest assured, we will follow it’s current food routine. Please bring instructions along with enough treats and food for their stay.

Should I inform you of any previous behavors my dog has exhibited?

Yes! We need to be aware of any and all previous behaviors, not only to protect our trainers, but to protect other dogs as well. For example, even if your dog may have been reactive to, or even protected it’s owner from, other dogs, we still need to be aware of it so we can take necessary precautions.

Safety is our top priority. If we deem your dog unsafe to trainers or other dogs, his program will be suspended.

Do you train with pinch collars or E collars?

We properly condition the dogs we handle with a regular flat collar to teach commands and from there we move to a specialized pinch collar. Finally, we move to the E collar, only once commands are learned. E collars are used with a tone or mild vibrate on the lowest setting only. We teach owners how to properly use these tools before their pets graduate. Alternative reinforcements are also used, such as: treats, loves, pats and praise.

Pinch and e collars are not used on puppies or extra-small breeds whatsoever.
